Role of IP6 in breast cancer

Hello Zuncia Family,
Today’s post is about investigating the role of Indole Hexaphosphate (IP6 ) in relation to Breast Cancer.
In the last post, we shared a research article from Mayo Clinic about how a 59 years old person put his Stage 4 melanoma (skin cancer) in remission with the use of over the counter available vitamin combination of IP6 + inositol.

In this study published in Anticancer Research from University of Maryland School of medicine, the researchers studied the potential of IP6 to inhibit cell adhesion, migration and invasion with human breast cancer cells in in vitro.
Results: “IP6 treatment caused a 65% reduction of cell adhesion to fibronection (p = 0.002) and a 37% reduction to collagen (p = 0.005). To determine whether a decrease in cell adhesion leads to a decrease in cell motility, migration assays were performed; IP6 decreased both the number of migrating cells and the distance of cell migration into the denuded area by 72% (p < 0.001).”
They concluded that IP6 inhibits the metastasis of human breast cancer cells in vitro through effects on cancer cell adhesion, migration and invasion, key steps involved in cancer metastasis.
In a review article published in 1999, when animals were given pure IP6 in drink, they found significant reduction in tumor number, incidence and multiplicity.
In randomised controlled trial published in 2010, a combination of IP6 and inositol were given to breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. They divided the patients in 2 groups, tested and control group.
Tested group of 7 patients (26- 76) were given IP6 + inositol, powder form of daily dosage of 6 grams, divided in 2 doses, for 6 months. The control group of 7 patients of same characteristics as of tested group was given Vitamin C as placebo, 6 gram daily in 2 doses for 6 months as well.
They concluded that IP6 + inositol was able to improve the quality of life of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy in comparison to control and protected patients from the loss in number of leukocytes and platelets.

“The question remains to what extent we can include IP6 + Inositol in the therapeutic program for breast cancer. The dosage of 6 g daily represents a low dose level of IP6 + Inositol. Extrapolated from animal data, in the absence of a dose-determination study in humans, the recommended prophylactic dosage of IP6 + Inositol is 1-2 g/day and a cancer therapeutic dosage is 8-12 g/day [4]. Even though our dosage was low, its efficacy to diminish the side effects of chemotherapy was significant.
Recent phase I study of inositol for lung cancer chemoprevention showed that in a daily dose of 18 g p.o. for 3 months, inositol was safe and well tolerated.”
There are many other studies that showed significant positive effects of IP6 in animals, in vitro studies and with other type of cancers ( check the last week post for links to some studies)
